June 1, 2007 - San Francisco Chinatown Premiere
San Francisco, CA
Chinese for Affirmative Action

About 20 people came to the SF Chinatown Premiere of In God's House at Chinese for Affirmative Action. The audience included monolingual Chinese speaking LGBT people, the Chinese parents of a queer daughter, a gay couple fighting for marriage equality, and staff people from the Chinese Historical Society. After the film screening, Rev. Deborah Lee talked about the importance of the film and the challenges in finding Asian LGBT people and families willing to be featured in the film. She then opened it up for audience members to share how they related to the film or how they thought it was helpful. Audience members shared diverse experiences - from growing up Catholic, to dating a closeted Korean Christian who did not feel she could come out, to supporting friends who were jin the process of coming out. A number of audience members purchased the film to share with people who they knew to be struggling with the church's teachings about sexuality.
