March 17, 2007 - Challenging Inequities: Traveling a Path of Social Justice in Global Education Conference
Rohnert Park, CA
Sonoma State University

Filmmaker Lina Hoshino, Graduate Theological Union student and high school teacher Michael Campos, and PANA Program Assistant Lauren Quock showed In God's House during a workshop on addressing the sensitive issues of race, religion, and sexual orientation in the classroom. The workshop was part of a conference held by the National Association of Multicultural Educators (NAME) at Sonoma State University.

Following the film screening, Lauren shared about the importance of talking about sexuality in schools and churches, Mike talked about storytelling as a way of addressing silence around sensitive issues in API communities, and Lina talked about the use of video in the classroom. Participants engaged in a question and answer discussion about specific situations they were trying to address in their schools. A number of workshop participants took a copy of the film with them to use in their classrooms.

One workshop participant said, "Thank you for such a gentle and informative time! I cannot express my gratitude for the ingenious and compassionate manner through which you bring up such important issues! I've truly benefitted from this experience."
